Agencia de Desarrollo Local de Alcantarrilla ,
Murcia
The project for the vegetated roofs installed on the public building of the Alcantarilla Local Development Agency aims to improve the building’s energy efficiency, reduce rainwater runoff and increase urban biodiversity. The monitoring system will allow the performance of the roofs to be evaluated over time, recording data on temperature, humidity and water behavior. Through rigorous monitoring and the subsequent drafting of conclusions, it will be possible to analyze the benefits and possible areas for improvement. The dissemination of the results will contribute to encourage sustainable practices in the construction and management of public buildings, promoting the use of green roofs as an ecological and efficient solution.
Types of roofs
Several types of roofs were installed in this project, which are as follows:
Roofs with inert substrate and rock wool.
- Roof 1: Vegetated roof with inert substrate of 4 cm thick and vegetative termination by planting 17 plants/m2 of sedum and succulent plants. Ground cover species, of very small size and scarce root development, with crass leaves and high water retention capacity, very resistant to water stress and with very low irrigation needs.
- Roof 2: Vegetated cover with 4 cm thick inert substrate and planting of 17 plants/m2 of native herbaceous and perennial species. Species with more aesthetic value in terms of creating compositions of different textures, colors, sizes, etc. Also more seasonal variation and more ecological contribution (biodiversity, biological communities, insects, pollinators, birds, etc.).
Coverings with organic substrate
- Roof 1: Cover vegetated with 10 cm thick organic substrate and vegetative termination by planting 22 plants/m2 of selected sedum species.
- Roof 2: Cover vegetated with 20 cm thick organic substrate and vegetative termination by planting 6 plants/m2 of selected aromatic species.
- Roof 3: Cover vegetated with 10 cm thick organic substrate and vegetative termination by planting 22 plants/m2 of selected sedum species.
of selected sedum species. - Roof 4: Cover vegetated with 20 cm thick organic substrate and vegetative termination by planting 6 plants/m2 of selected aromatic species.
