At Ejido, a green roof has been installed that is distinguished by its simplicity and versatility. This walkable flat roof system is designed as an extensive garden, including an efficient drip irrigation system that adapts its possibilities to various vegetation options. In this case, low plants such as lawns combined with larger species such as small palm trees were chosen.
The substrate used in this system, known as the cantir system, combines organic materials such as topsoil and peat with granular mineral components, the type and thickness of which are adjusted according to the type of vegetation desired. This cover provides multiple benefits: it reduces the urban heat island effect, improves thermal and acoustic insulation, increases biodiversity and creates new urban green spaces, thus transforming the built environment of the house.
