SingularGreen exterior facade,
Alicante

In SingularGreen, in our exterior facade we have installed a hydroponic vertical garden that covers the entire surface of the facade of our offices. This innovative design has the particularity of being built with two different construction systems, adapted to maximize efficiency and visual impact of vegetation.

Vertical garden construction

Upper part: FP Vertical Garden

The upper part of the façade is equipped with a vertical garden using our standard FP system. This system consists of several layers, including a waterproofing layer, an inert substrate and a variety of carefully selected plants. This type of vertical garden is an efficient and proven solution, which not only improves the aesthetics of our office, but also contributes to the improvement of the local microclimate.
Lower Part: Hydroponic Climbing System

The lower part of the facade presents a different approach. Here, we have implemented a water collection channel, on which we have planted approximately 30 plants per square meter. To cover the window area, we opted for a system of climbers, also managed hydroponically. This decision was motivated by the need to efficiently manage water on the façade, allowing for the recirculation and reuse of irrigation water.
Hydroponic Management and Water Recirculation

Both systems, both the FP vertical garden at the top and the climbing system at the bottom, are hydroponic. This means that we remove the organic substrate and provide all the necessary nutrients to the plants through the irrigation system. The excess irrigation water is collected through specific channels and recirculated, ensuring an efficient and sustainable use of the water resource.

For the lower part, the water collection channel also functions as a planter, in which an inert substrate has been installed. This design allows the climbers to grow and spread, creating a green mantle that covers the entire facade. To support the climbers, we have installed cables on the façade, with an irregular arrangement to obtain a dynamic and varied aesthetic effect.

Species Selection

For the vertical garden we have chosen:

  • Erigeron Karvinskianus
  • Tradescantia Lollipop + Tradescantia Zebrina Emerald
  • Acorus Gramineus Licorice + Acorus Gramineus Ogon
  • Chlorophytum Comosum Hawaiian Spider +
    Chlorophytum Comosum Variegata
  • Sedum Ochroleucum + Sedum Sediforme + Sedum Sexangulare
  • Lonicera Nítida Maigrun

And for the window boxes we have chosen three species of climbers:

  • Lonicera: It grows quickly and provides ample green cover.
  • Jasminum (Yamminum): Offers yellow flowers throughout most of the year, adding color and vibrancy to the facade.
  • Solanum Jasminoides: Generates greater volume and produces white flowers with purplish touches, complementing the variety and beauty of the other two species.

Technical and Aesthetic Solutions

The design and implementation of this vertical garden has been carefully planned to overcome technical challenges, such as water collection and management. The installation of channels and the recirculation system were essential to avoid additional complications and ensure the feasibility of the project.

The decision to divide the installation into two parts – a vertical FP garden at the top and planters with climbers at the bottom – has allowed for an adaptable and efficient solution to cover the entire façade with greenery. This project not only fulfills its functional purpose, but also adds significant aesthetic value, showing the flexibility and creativity of our vertical vegetation systems.

In conclusion, the hydroponic vertical garden on the facade of our offices is a clear example of how innovative and sustainable solutions can transform urban spaces, improving both the environment and the efficiency of natural resource management.

sostenibles pueden transformar espacios urbanos, mejorando tanto el entorno como la eficiencia en la gestión de recursos naturales.
