Spain Square,
Merida
In Mérida, two vertical gardens were incorporated into the Plaza España square’s kiosks. These gardens, which cover a total area of 86 square meters, not only adorn these meeting points but also promote sustainability in the urban area.
Designed with a diversity of native plant species, these vertical gardens contribute significantly to improving air quality and minimizing noise pollution, while integrating aesthetically with the surrounding historic architecture. Their installation on the kiosks provides a vibrant, natural contrast that appeals to residents and visitors.
This project is part of a larger initiative to revitalize Merida’s public spaces, highlighting the city’s commitment to sustainable urbanism.
Design
At the time of making the design we thought that given the historical circumstances of the city of Merida it was appropriate to make a small tribute to its Roman antecedents. That’s why we were looking for information about this city and we came up with the idea of making a design inspired by Roman mosaics.
