Juinsa Ibi Group,
Alicante

For the Juinsa company in Ibi, a vertical garden was designed using preserved plants, an ideal solution given the absence of water intakes or irrigation facilities. This choice made it possible to integrate green elements into the space without the need for ongoing maintenance associated with live plants. The preserved plants are treated by a process that maintains their fresh and natural appearance for a long time, without requiring water or sunlight.

This vertical garden not only aesthetically enriches Juinsa’s work environment, but also contributes to creating a more pleasant and relaxing space for employees and visitors. The installation of this garden is an example of how structural limitations can be overcome through creative and sustainable solutions, demonstrating that design and nature can coexist harmoniously even in challenging environments.

Plants used

Specifically for the realization of these conserved plant gardens in Ibi we use the following species:
Flat moss
It is a non-vascular bryophyte plant of a very intense green that lacks stems and leaves. They are used a lot in walls and pictures to bring naturalness, freshness to the environment and thus to be able to break the hardness of space. They are often used to create feng shui environments.

Lichen
We can find it in many gardens and forests because it grows easily on the rough bark of trees, thus maintaining moisture. Not being a plant, this organism can only grow up to 15 cm. It is very resistant to adverse environmental conditions, so it is able to grow in different ecosystems. As a preserved plant, it is marketed in different colors.
Ball moss
It has the same characteristics as the flat moss, but has a larger volume.

Helychrisium Diosmi
It is known as rice flower because it seems to contain small grains. In preserved plant its leaves are linear brown and the grains can be of different colors. You can find them in red, orange, white, pink, blue, lilac, yellow … It is a very versatile plant for this type of work thanks to its wide range of colors, so it can combine with all kinds of species either moss or flowers. Its uses are multiple depending on the creativity of each one.
Parchment fern

It is a type of fern. It has lobed, alternate and shiny leaves of a very striking dark green color. It can be used in an infinity of creations.
Adiamthum raddianum

It is a botanical genus of one of the 280 species of ferns. It is native to tropical and subtropical regions of the world and many of them have linear frond segments and feature some subpalmate division. It is very versatile, with endless possibilities.

Papyrus

They are commonly known as papyrus. Aesthetically, its leaves are green, long, thin, flexible and very light. They can be used in any floral arrangement as they bring color and movement to the composition.

Before starting with the creation you must be clear about the composition, so it is advisable to make a previous design in which the size of the DM panels, the distribution of plants and the type of species to be used are included.

Once all the above has been specified, these are the steps we follow to elaborate the vertical garden of preserved plants in Ibi:

We drew the design on the DM boards leaving a margin of about 10 cm free of plants and thus avoid spoiling the transport to Ibi.
We spread liquid contact glue with a spatula all over the MDF board waiting for it to dry.
We started first with the flat moss, applied spray contact glue on the back and placed them on the board according to the previous design. The pieces are irregular so we must look for those pieces that best fit to get the best use of the material.
Then we continue with the lichen. Before gluing it to the board, we check its lower part making sure that it is free of dirt, it may be necessary in some cases to remove this part to get a better finish. The contact glue is put on the lower area.

Placing the flat moss and the lichen

Next we place the ball moss, just like the flat moss, we have to make sure that the pieces fit together to avoid gaps. The spray glue is placed at the bottom.

Finally we place the ferns, the papyrus, the adiamtum, and the rice flower using the silicone gun.

From this article we recommend the conserved plant gardens when the client is looking for a low maintenance, since the plants, being freeze-dried, do not need water, fertilizer or light, and can be installed on any type of surface. However, it is necessary to be careful with the direct sun and the humidity in excess, since it spoils them. If these factors are avoided, they can last for years.
